However, there are many online nursing programs available today, and choosing can be difficult. Fortunately, many reputable schools provide quality online nursing programs. Reputable rating organizations evaluate programs accredited by the CCNE and the NLNAC. They also base their rankings on the program’s prestige and reputation, acceptance rates, financial aid, faculty ratio, scholarly and peer web citations and graduation rates. Quality online nursing programs are offered by Chamberlain College of Nursing, University of Phoenix, Grand Canyon University, Walden University and University of Cincinnati.

Chamberlain College of Nursing

Nursing Online Education Database ranked Chamberlain College of Nursing as the best online nursing program in 2008. The program is also included in U.S. News and World Report’s list of the top five online nursing programs. It ranked fourth in faculty credentials out of 39 online education programs in the country.

Chamberlain College of Nursing has accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.  The school offers associate and bachelor’s degrees in nursing. University of Phoenix is currently the largest accredited university in the U.S. The school also offers a wide range of online nursing programs. This includes LPN and LVN programs, bachelor’s degrees in nursing and a master’s degree in nursing. These programs have accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. Prospective students are given the option to get these degrees online or take courses at the university’s 200 campuses. Some of the areas of specialization offered include nursing and healthcare education, nursing informatics and health administration.

Grand Canyon University

Grand Canyon University offers one of the best nursing programs in the country. U.S. News and World Report has ranked the university well because of its graduate nursing online education. It was also recognized by NOEDB as the second best online nursing program in 2008.  GCU offers more extensive graduate degree programs than the other top-ranking online schools. These nursing programs provide more areas of concentration. These include options for clinical nurse specialists, nurse leadership in health care systems, nursing education and family nurse practitioners. Grand Canyon University is also popular for its bridge program where students can directly proceed to getting their master’s degree after the bachelor’s in nursing.

Walden University

Walden University online nursing programs are accredited by the CCNE.  The university has gained a lot of recognition for its online nursing programs. U.S. News and World Report ranked Walden online graduate-level nursing programs 9th in student engagement and accreditation and 11th in faculty credentials and training.  The programs offer the chance for students to get the degree in their own time.

University of Cincinnati

The University of Cincinnati has accreditation from the CCNE for its online nursing programs. The university offers a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management and a Master of Science in nursing specializing in nurse midwifery. The graduate programs are included in the top 100 online nursing programs released by U.S. News and World Report.  In addition, it also ranked 62nd in Money Magazine’s top 100 elite values in higher education. These programs challenge students to improve their skills in the nursing areas they prefer. They may complete these programs as either full-time or part-time students.
