As a certified registered nurse anesthetist, your job will be to administer anesthesia to patients who are undergoing medical procedures that may be painful. You will also be providing pain management services. In some instances, you may work under a physician or you may work independently if you so choose. You can administer local, general , or regional anesthesia to patients. You can also give IV sedation. You will also monitor these patients while they are under the anesthesia
How To Become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist
If you are interested in becoming a certified registered nurse anesthetist, you will need to go back to school and continue your education. You must first earn a bachelor’s of science in nursing degree from an accredited college or university and take courses in anatomy, physiology, psychology, microbiology, nutrition, chemistry and nursing. You will need to become licensed and earn a year of experience as a registered nurse. Then, you will need to enroll in a master’s degree program for nurse anesthesia. This program will need to be accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs. This will take you between 24 and 36 months.
